Air Conditioning Installation
The average life expectancy of a central air conditioning unit is about 15-20 years. Of course, this can be longer with proper maintenance and replacement parts. However, the improvements in technology over that 15-20 year period can mean major changes to the efficiency of your system. Twenty years ago, the average SEER (seasonal energy efficiency ratio) for air conditioning systems was between 6-8. In stark contrast, the legal minimum of today’s systems is 13! Even this is low considering many high efficiency models on the market range from 20-30 SEER. (410) 227-8163 Click here to view images like this one in our Gallery
What Are The Benefits of Replacing your AC Unit?
Saving Money! It’s almost a given that newer systems will be more energy efficient. However, what most people don’t realize is that even an efficient system can be sub-optimal for certain applications. Sometimes, multiple systems or system combinations can be a better choice in terms of efficient and zoned climate control. Additionally, new air conditioning systems will help to improve your indoor air quality and give your greater control of your indoor climate.
What are the Differences Between an AC Unit and a Heat Pump?
The main difference between Heat Pumps and Air Conditioning Units is that Heat Pumps work to control your indoor climate year-round. A heat pump pulls heat either into or out of your home to keep you warm in the winter, and cool in the summer. An air conditioner uses mechanical refrigeration to provide you with cool air.
Heat pumps have the advantage of being dual-purposed. They utilize economical sources of temperature regulation (outside air, or ground temperatures), and can pay for themselves in the resulting energy savings.
Air conditioners, however, can be cheaper to install up front and are often a space-saving choice when the indoor-outdoor combination of a heat pump isn’t an option.

How does an air conditioner work?
The air conditioner in a central heating and cooling system supplies homes and office buildings with cool air through the ductwork. The cool air is generated by drawing warm air from the building into the system, removing the heat energy, pumping it outdoors, and replacing it with cooler air.
Considering buying a new unit?
Here is what to look for
One of the most essential things to look for when shopping for a new AC unit is the SEER rating. SEER stands for seasonal energy-efficiency ratio. As a general rule of thumb, the better the SEER rating, the better the system. The minimum SEER rating allowed by law is SEER 10. SEER 13 will soon be the new minimum standard allowed by law. To safeguard your purchase do not acquire a unit with a rating lower than SEER 13.
Environmentally conscientious consumers know this refrigerant is safe for the ozone layer. However, most do not know it is also paired with compressors that are quieter than those that use other types of refrigerants.
We've been doing this for a long time and we have yet to meet a customer that wants a noisy unit. Unless you're at war with the neighbors, or someone else living in your household, you'll want to look for a unit with condensers that have a decibel rating near or below 70. Any rating near 80 and your dealing with a pretty noisy air conditioner. Our suggestion would be to look elsewhere.
