Types of Hot Water Heaters:

Your home or business needs hot water. From essential operations to basic comfort, losing hot water is detrimental to health, commerce, and convenience. What are the best ways to provide your home or business with hot water? There are a number of different types of water heaters to meet your needs.

Traditional hot water heaters use electricity, or fuel like propane and natural gas, to heat large supply tanks of water. These tanks serve as a reservoir for your hot water needs. Other options include modern tankless water heaters. Tankless water heaters are more energy efficient than Tank-type systems. Instead of heating a reservoir of water, they heat water on an as-needed basis as it passes through the system.

Other specialty water heater types, like gas assist heat exchangers and solar, are also available. Get in touch with us to learn more!

Residential Tank Water Heaters

From traditional gas, propane, and electric tanks, to ultra-efficient hybrid water heaters, we can assess your home’s needs in order to install some of the highest-performing water heaters available. The dozens of models available from Rheem are sure to strike your perfect balance of performance, features, efficiency, and -- most of all -- budget.

What is a Combination Boiler?

High-efficiency combination boilers have become a very popular choice among homeowners looking to save both space and money. These units replace traditional furnace and water heater systems by providing both heat and hot water to small homes and zones. Combination boilers are an effective solution for smaller homes with one bathroom and where existing storage/space is at a premium.

What is the difference between a boiler and a hot water heater?

Hot water heaters and boilers work to fulfil two different needs within a home or building. Hot water heaters, in essence, heat water to be used for things like showers, washing hands, or laundry. Boilers, on the other hand, evaporate water into hot steam which is then pumped and circulated through radiators throughout your home in order to heat the air.

Residential Tankless Water Heaters

Tankless water heaters give you the convenience and comfort of hot water on demand. Available in gas, propane, and electric models, tankless water heaters are perfect for a variety of residential applications.

What is the difference between tank and tankless heaters?

The main difference between tank and tankless hot water heaters comes down to how they supply hot water. A traditional tank system has a storage of hot water which must be replenished and reheated after every use. This translates to a period of latency that we are all familiar with; “there’s no hot water left.” With a tankless water heater, water is heated as it passes through the system on an as-needed basis. So, as long as you have running water and a supply of fuel (gas, propane, or electricity), you have hot water.

Any other benefits of tankless?

An additional benefit is the difference in function when there is no need for hot water. A traditional tank hot water system must maintain the reservoir’s temperature when not in use in order to provide hot water when it is needed. However, a tankless system has no storage of water and therefore no need to waste energy heating water when none is needed. This can translate to HUGE savings on your energy bills.

Tankless water heaters can be sized for whole-home or point-of-use applications. This means that whether you need to supply hot water for a home with a busy family, or simply an addition, garage, or outbuilding, we’ve got a system for your needs.

Commercial Tank Water Heaters

Commercial Tank Water Heaters are ideal for businesses that use large volumes of hot water in short periods of time. Available to use with your existing gas, propane, or electric infrastructure, modern tank water heaters are loaded with features to ensure your operations run smoothly.

The Rheem commercial storage tanks we install are manufactured from heavy-gauge steel using high-temperature porcelain enamel lining to protect all tank and coil components. This means that your investment will work hard for you, and do so for a long time.

In addition to their heavy-duty build, Rheem commercial tank water heaters are packed with technology to ensure optimal performance. Many systems include Smart Monitoring Technology with an integrated Wi-Fi app. These systems internally monitor their own performance and alert you of any possible leaks, component malfunctions, and other issues that require attention. Not only are these features able to detect current issues, but they also alert you of warning signs that could need servicing in the future. No longer do you have to play plumber to keep your commercial operations on track. A simple alert will allow you to contact Five Star Power Systems and keep you on-track.
